Senior Schooling

At Browns Plains State High School, our mission is that every student experiences educational success and personal growth daily, through an accessible, engaging and challenging curriculum.  We aspire for quality through our Four Pillars of Excellence – Learning, Sport, Arts and Community.

In the Senior Schooling, we encourage and support our students to achieve to the best of their ability enabling them to graduate from our school with a worthwhile qualification.  We provide two distinct pathways in the Senior Phase of Learning – Academic Pathway and Flexible Pathway.
In Year 10, students participate in a set careers program to develop the Senior Education and Training (SET) Plan.  This plan enables students to identify their desired future pathway and map out future goals.
In Years 11 and 12, students work towards achieving success in their chosen pathway:
Academic Pathway (OP) – Designed for students who wish to study at University post Year 12.
Students study a range of Authority (OP) subjects and participate in a comprehensive Queensland Core Skills (QCS) preparation program to help them achieve the best results by the end of Year 12.
Flexible Pathway (FP) – Designed for students who are seeking direct entry into TAFE or are hoping to commence a School-based Traineeship or Apprenticeship.  Students choosing this pathway are eligible for a Tertiary Selection Rank and are encouraged to sit the QCS Test. This pathway is also designed for students who wish to go into the world of work on completion of Year 12.  It allows students to develop the skills required to become ‘work ready’.
All senior students at Browns Plains State High School work towards the achievement of their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) by the end of Year 12.
SAT (School-based Apprenticeship/Traineeship)
School-based Apprenticeships/Traineeships (SATs) are part-time apprenticeships or traineeships where students use some school time to go to work and/or do the theoretical off-the-job training of their SAT.  For more information regarding SATs, please contact our Industry Liaison Officer – Mrs Christine Smith on 3802 6222 or csmit56@eq.edu.au
TAFE and other training provider courses
Browns Plains State High School links with three outside training providers to offer opportunities for students to undertake a Certificate course in a range of interest areas while completing their senior studies in Year 12.  They are:  TAFE Queensland (TAFE Brisbane campuses and SkillsTech Australia) and Binnacle Training. For more information about the Senior Pathway opportunities available for students at Browns Plains State High School, please contact Karyn Trapp (HOD Senior Schooling) on 3802 6222 or ktrap1@eq.edu.au.
