Junior Secondary

At Browns Plains State High School, our mission is for every student to experience educational success and personal growth daily, through an accessible, engaging and challenging curriculum. We aspire to achieve quality learning outcomes through our Four Pillars of Excellence – Learning, Sport, Arts and Community.

Junior Secondary (Years 7, 8 and 9) prides itself on providing a safe and nurturing environment, whilst remaining focused on empowering every student to achieve academic success.

In Year 7, students study English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Health and Physical Education, a rotation of Music, Art, Dance and Drama (MADD) and Indonesian.

In Year 8, students study English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Health and Physical Education, a rotation of Music, Art, Dance and Drama (MADD) and Indonesian. They also study, on a semester rotation basis, Home Economics and Information and Communication Technologies.

In Year 9, students study English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Health and Physical Education as their five core subjects. As the first step in planning their individual education journey, Year 9 students choose two electives to complete their program of study.

All Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 students have one Literacy lesson each week, with Year 7 and Year 8 students having a Numeracy lesson as well. These lessons are designed to enhance students’ literacy and numeracy foundations.

Academic Excellence Program

The Browns Plains State High School Academic Excellence Program is designed for students in Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 who excel in the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, and Humanities, and who are highly motivated to succeed. Access to this program is through invitation, following an analysis of student academic data. Students selected for Academic Excellence Program must maintain the highest standards of achievement, attendance, behaviour and uniform.
